Running Drills with the Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons make their nest in Flowery Branch, just a few miles from the shores of Lake Lanier. Every summer, they invite their fans out to observe training camp. From late July through early August, the team runs drills, practice games and even a scrimmage or two. Admission to camp is always free and the team usually sets up some fun family activities. It’s a great way to get an upclose look at the players before the season begins.

We are so proud of our Falcons and their winning season – and we hope to see them go all the way to the Super Bowl later this month. Help us cheer them on during their game this weekend at one of the many sports bars and pubs around Lake Lanier where the game will be watched by locals and visitors alike.

We miss summer…and football on Cocktail Cove!

With the Super Bowl approaching fast, we thought it would be fun to show you some football with a Lake Lanier twist. Boaters at the infamous Cocktail Cove play houseboat football where the pigskin is passed from boat to boat and to brave receivers who hurl themselves off the decks and into the water.

Sports Hall of Fame – Damon Evans

Reaching a goal he had set for himself, former Gainesville High School athlete and scholar Damon Evans was named athletic director at the University of Georgia in 2003. He succeeded the legendary Vince Dooley, who recommended Evans for the position.

After receiving a master’s degree in education and sports management, Evans held positions with the Southeastern Conference and the University of Missouri.

Evans was a star athlete in football, basketball, and track at Gainesville High and played wide-receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Atlanta Falcon Matt Ryan Coaches Kids

Topps and Matt Ryan have announced plans to host the inaugural Topps Matt Ryan Football Clinic featuring Justin Blalock and Sam Baker. The clinic is set for Saturday June 6 at Centennial High School in Roswell.

Ryan, Blalock and Baker will be on site to lead the activities of the camp and provide instruction to youth football players along with the help of area high school coaches. Open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14, this non-contact football clinic will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition to three hours of football instruction, all campers will receive a Matt Ryan autograph, a football clinic t-shirt, and the opportunity to win additional contests and prizes. Cost of the clinic is $99.

Participants will experience various stations, specializing in the fundamental skills and team concepts of football. Individual groups will be small to assure that each camper receives maximum personalized instruction.

Campers are encouraged to register early, as spots are limited.

Mini Camp – Open to fans May 9th

The Atlanta Falcons will hold their first mini-camp of the 2009 season this weekend at their team headquarters in Flowery Branch.

The Falcons will practice twice on Friday and Saturday and once on Sunday.
Both Saturday sessions are open to the public – 10:30am and 4:15 pm.

The first 150 fans to arrive at each mini camp practice on May 9th will receive a $5 Arch Card courtesy of McDonalds.
